Choosing a major is one of the most important decisions we make as college students, and it is also a difficult one.

Deciding on a major is a personal decision, and the best advice we can give is to research areas that interest you and to learn about what types of careers relate to each major. You can do this by using online resources, but the best way is to talk to family, friends, instructors, and Career Consultants. They will be able to provide a great perspective on what you can expect from pursuing a certain major, and will be able to give you more advice specific to various career paths.

Above all, it is most important to know yourself – your interests, your personality, what you are looking for in a career. Choosing your major is totally in your control. Remember that there are no right or wrong answers and that you can always change your major.

Below is a flow chart that highlights some resources from the UGA Career Center that can help you choose a major that is right for you. If you are looking for more information, be sure to check out the Choosing a Major page on the Career Center website.
